The reason behind this growth is that there was a pre handover boom in Hong Kong before 1997. Due to post handover depression, there was a sudden decrease in profit from HK$60 million in 1997 to HK$30 million in1998. The profits bottomed out in 1999 with HK$20 million. Since the China market grew from 1999, the profits rose steadily from HK$20 million in 1999 to HK$40 million in 2001.
